Narrative

Two Sides, a poetic short film by Cameron Hyman and Daniella Berry of Sint Maarten, was inspired by the often-overlooked perspective of single fathers in the Caribbean.

While mothers are rightfully acknowledged for the weight they carry, fathers’ stories remain a grey area; judged harshly if absent, and rarely understood even when they try to show up.

This piece seeks not to excuse neglect, but to open space for empathy, inviting audiences to consider the realities of co-parenting, the complexities of love, and the societal narratives that shape families.

At its heart, Two Sides asks us to move beyond judgment, to better understand both parents, and ultimately, to envision healthier dynamics for the next generation.

The film explores the effects of social media consumption and addiction, imagining what a “social media overdose” might look like. It follows Imani as she navigates depression while becoming increasingly overwhelmed by the pressures, expectations, and constant stimulation of social media.

As the weight of both begins to compound, she reaches a breaking point—culminating in a physical and emotional manifestation of a social media overdose.
